Misunderstood, Mismanaged, and Misdiagnosed

It starts with low energy an is usually blamed on stress. Then you begin to crave sweets to stay awake and focused, especially around 3 in the afternoon. So you take "energy supplements" to get through the day, and when these stop working you start drinking more soda or "energy drinks". Then you realize you are not sleeping as well as you used to.

The fatigue leads to less exercise and less desire to do more than you have to do. You find yourself snacking more on "junk food" and your weight starts creeping up. The extra weight saps more energy so you drink more caffeine or stronger "energy drinks". You now have a sleeping problem - you have difficulty falling asleep or you wake several times during the night, and when it's time to wake up, you feel as tired as you did when you went to bed.

Now you are concerned so you go to your primary care physician. The examination doesn't reveal anything unusual and the blood tests come back as normal. Your low energy is diagnosed as a sleeping problem and you are given a prescription for sleeping pills. They help you sleep, sort of, but leave you groggy in the morning, causing you to drink more caffeine or "energy drinks". You still find it impossible to get through the afternoon without sugar, and your weight continues to climb. You stop exercising altogether because you haven't lost weight and your energy is still down.

By now you don't like the way your body looks and you dread buying clothes, knowing you have to go up a size, or even two. You go on a "diet" and lose a few pounds, but gain it back, plus some, and have even less energy. You are irritable, emotional, and even little things really annoy you. You snap at your family and co-workers but this is not the positive, up-beat person they knew. So they may suggest that you are depressed, but you think "that's crazy". However, because things continue to spiral downward, you return to the doctor and mention this. Now, he puts you on an antidepressant.

For a while you seem to feel better, but your energy level is still low and your weight continues to climb. You try a different diet, and since this removes sweets you take "workout pills" just to get through your workday. You now hate your body and feel older than you are.

You return to your physician and he changes your sleep medication, your antidepressant, and prescribes a diet pill. That makes you feel "tired and wired" and nothing really changes.

You try multi-level products and continue with the medications. Now you are too tired and embarrassed to go to the gym. There is tension at home and pressure at work because your productivity has been affected. You are fat, out of shape, in pain, and still tired. You have "brain fog", your skin is dry and itchy, your hair is falling out, you have cold hands and feet, your legs may twitch at night, and your head aches. You are frustrated, depressed, sad and upset. And yet no one has been able to tell you what's REALLY WRONG.
